Mercy

There are two types of mercy. There’s a mercy (H2617/G2436) that shows kindness or favor and there’s mercy (H7356/G1653) that shows pity or compassion. The mercy of pity and compassion is our focus. Jesus said the merciful shall obtain mercy. When you give mercy you receive it from God. When you show pity and compassion to others God will show you pity and compassion.

Mercy is helping someone in need

The Merciful shall obtain Mercy

Mat 5:7 - Blessed are the merciful:for they shall obtain mercy.

Mercy is having compassion

Rom. 9:15 15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 16So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

Mercy is forgiving others

Matt. 18:23 23Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? 34And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

Mercy is helping others in need

Matt. 9:27 27And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. 28And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. 29Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 30And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.

Rom 12:8 - Or he that exhorteth, onexhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, withdiligence; he that sheweth mercy, G1653 with cheerfulness.

1Co 7:25 - Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord:yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy G1653 of the Lordto be faithful.

2Co 4:1 - Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy,G1653 we faint not;
