Tasting God's Goodness

Tasting vs. Testing God

Taste vs. test. We are admonished to taste God and forbidden to test him. To taste God is to try him in what he said, with an attitude of faith but to test him is to try him with what he said, with an evil intention. The children of Israel in the desert chose to test God instead of tasting Him, as a result, they died because of unbelief. Taste and see the goodness of God.

Try God in his word

Psa 34:8 - O taste H2938 and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Job 12:11 - Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste H2938 his meat?

Job 34:3 - For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth H2938 meat.

Mal. 3:10 10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. 12And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

We are forbidden to test God

Matt. 4:5 5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Ps. 106:7 7Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. 8Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. 9He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. 10And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. 11And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left. 12Then believed they his words; they sang his praise. 13They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel: 14But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. 15And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
